7th Grade Mathematics/ Personal Finance

Welcome!

My name is Ms Chan, and I love being a part of our Slocum Skewes School community. I currently teach 7th grade Math as well as 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Personal Finance. This is my 6th year in the classroom, and I truly enjoy helping students gain skills that will serve them in school and in life.

I earned my B.A. from Brandeis University and my M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, and I am certified to teach grades K–8. In the classroom, I aim to build both strong academic skills and confidence, encouraging students to see learning as something valuable and meaningful.

Seventh grade math is an important foundation for high school and beyond. It strengthens problem-solving and prepares students for more advanced topics, while also showing them how math connects to the real world.

Personal Finance is a class that gives students practical tools that they will use for life. Learning how to save, budget, and make smart financial choices provides confidence and independence, and starting these habits in middle school sets students up for long-term success.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my four young adult children, walking my two dogs, traveling to cheer on my daughter at her collegiate soccer games, trying new foods and restaurants when all my kids are together, and supporting them as they are just starting their careers.

I look forward to getting to know each of my students this year and partnering with families to make it a positive and successful experience for everyone.
