About Mr. Brusgard

Mr. Andy Brusgard currently serves as a Social Studies teacher at Slocum Skewes and has been in this position since 2002. He teaches 7th World History and 8th U.S. History and Civics. He received his Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education with a History double major from the University of Scranton. In 2007, he received his Masters of Arts in Social Studies from Montclair State University.  Mr. Brusgard's philosophy on teaching history is to remember to keep the "story" in history and make the past relatable to today's student. The class mixes up different styles of lessons, including lectures, group activities, debate and discussions, interactive reviews, and videos. He currently serves as the co-advisor to the Slocum Skewes Student Council and Debate Club plus also assists with the annual seventh grade trip to Frost Valley.

At home, Mr. Brusgard is married to his wife Kelly of fifteen years. Fun fact, Kelly was once was an elementary teacher at Slocum Skewes! He has 4 kids, Andrew, Emma, Riley, and Liam. When not grading or writing super interesting lesson plans, Mr. Brusgard enjoys streaming his favorite shows, watching his kids after school activities, building model trains, going for walks, and reading! Mr. Brusgard is also a huge baseball fan, his favorite team he cheers on are the New York Yankees.
